The first page of Genesis in By Hand: a running head, the chapter numeral 1, and verse numbers with ruled lines beneath. On the lines for verse 1, the verse is being written out by hand.In the beginning God created the heavenand the earth.
Verse 1 written in for illustration. In the book the lines are empty.

The page holds the number and the lines. You bring the words.

  1. Open your own Bible

In whatever translation you already read. Nothing in the journal is tied to one.

  2. Find the verse number

Each verse number sits at the start of its lines, in order, chapter by chapter.

  3. Write it out by hand

Slowly, at the pace of the pen. The ruled lines keep your writing level, and each verse already has the room it needs.

Genesis lying open at chapter 1, both pages ruled and empty apart from the verse numbers.

A page with nothing on it but room.

Each verse number sits in grey at the start of its first line. Chapters open on a large numeral, every book begins on its own page, and a running head keeps your place. The rules are hairlines, only there to keep your writing level.

Questions

Which translation is it for?

Any of them. No scripture is printed, only the verse numbers and the lines, so you copy from whichever Bible you already read.

How much room does each verse get?

The lines are set from the length of each verse, so a long verse gets the lines it needs and a short one does not leave half a page empty.

Where should I start?

Anywhere. Every volume stands on its own.

Why twenty volumes?

Each volume holds whole books, grouped so none gets too thick to write in comfortably.

Who prints and ships it?

Lulu prints each copy on demand and ships it to you. Checkout happens on Lulu.
